Should the Play buttons be unable to pair, a factory reset should be performed.
To preform a factory reset on the Play buttons, follow these steps:

Remove the battery (read Replacing the Battery for more)
Reinsert the battery
Push and hold the button for 10 seconds (must be within 5 seconds of reinserting the battery)

By pushing the button, all your settings will be lost and the Play button will return to default
