Using Credits with Bill Splitting
There are three things to understand when it comes to a Customer using Credits and inviting their friends to split the bill:
Credits can be used by the Reservation Holder to pay for their spot or portion of the bill
If a Free Invite is sent out, Credits will apply to the invitee’s spot or portion of the bill
If more Credits were used to book the Reservation than are needed for the Reservation Holder’s portion of the bill, the additional Credits are returned to the Reservation Holder once the Reservation bill settles
Let’s look at examples of each to truly grasp the system’s logic:
Situation 1
Customer A books a $20 Reservation for two people
Customer A uses $10 in Credits during the booking flow
Customer A will have a hold on their credit card (CC) for $10
Which is the remaining cost of the Reservation
Customer A invites Customer B to the Reservation
Customer B will have a hold on their CC for $10, which is half of the Reservation
When the Reservation is over:
Customer A will not have any charge on their CC (the hold is released)
Customer B is charged $10 for half of the Reservation
Situation 2
Customer A books a $40 Reservation for four people
Customer A uses $30 in Credits during the booking flow
Customer A will have a hold on their credit card (CC) for $10
Which is the remaining cost of the Reservation
Customer A invites Customers B, C, and D to the Reservation and does not want to pay for their friend’s spots
Customer B has $10 in Credits and uses them to accept the invitation and pay for their 1/4th portion of the bill
Customer C and D do not have Credits and will have a hold on their CC for $10, which is the remaining half of the Reservation
When the Reservation is over:
Customer A will not have any charge on their CC and has $20 in Credits returned to their Profile
Customer B has their Credits reduced by $10
Customer C and D pay $10 each with their CC on file
Situation 3
Customer A books a $20 Reservation for two people
Customer A used $15 in Credits during the booking flow
Customer A will have a hold on their credit card (CC) for $5
Which is the remainder of the Reservation’s cost
Customer A invites Customer B to the Reservation for Free (pay for their spot)
Customer B will not have a hold on their CC
When the Reservation is over:
Customer A will have a $5 charge on their CC
Customer B is not charged anything
Situation 4
Customer A books a $40 Reservation for four people
Customer A uses $30 in Credits during the booking flow
Customer A will have a hold on their credit card (CC) for $10
Which is the remaining cost of the Reservation
Customer A invites Customers B, C, and D to the Reservation and wants to pay for their friend’s spots, so Customer A sends out a Free Invite (to learn more, read about Splitting the Bill with other Customers)
Customer B, C, D will not have a hold on their CC
When the Reservation is over:
Customer A will have a $10 charge on their CC
Customers B, C, and D are not charged anything
Situation 5
Customer A books a $20 Reservation for two people
Customer A uses $15 in Credits during the booking flow
Customer A will have a hold on their credit card (CC) for $5
Which is the remainder of the Reservation’s cost
Customer A invites Customer B to the Reservation
Customer B will have a hold on their CC for $10, which is half of the Reservation
When the Reservation is over:
Customer A will not have any charge on their CC (the hold of $5 is released), and $5 in Credits are returned to their Account
Customer B is charged $10 for half of the Reservation
